Victor Maitland

Beverly Hills Cop film (1984)

Victor Maitland is an art dealer from Beverly Hills. Maitland also deals in the trafficking of drugs using coffee to pack cocaine in to throw the dogs off the scent.

Working for him is Mikey who decides to to steal bearer bonds from him and winds up being executed for it infront of Detroit Police Officer and old friend Axel Foley. Axel is granted two weeks vacation time, which he decides to spend in Beverly hills and vows to track down Mikey's killer who is unknown to him at the time.

He makes contact with Jenny an ex of his, who steers him towards art dealer Victor Maitland. He immediately confronts Victor at his office (where it's shown that Zach is Victor's right-hand man, and Mikeys killer) but is quickly disposed of into the hands of the the Beverly Hills police, Sgt. Taggart and Det. Billy Rosewood who quiz him.

Later Axel checks into a high-class hotel by making a big scene about racism at the hotel, while being tailed by Taggart and Rosewood, and after evading them he visits Maitland's warehouses where he meets up with Jenny, noticing that all is not well and there is plenty of coffee to be found in the open crates.

Maitland and Zach travel to a high class country club the next day, where Axel accuses him of killing Mikey. But after a fight with Zach, he is arrested again. He finally unfolds the story about Maitland but is unable to prove himself and so is escorted to the airport back to Detroit.

Axel tells Rosewood on the way that Maitland is expecting another shipment and so the pair go to intercept them at the warehouse. After some fracas Axel and Rosewood retreat victorious and go to meet Taggart at Maitland's mansion, where the final battle commences.

The three take on the whole of Maitland's bad guys and eventually corner him, making him take Jenny (who was later captured) hostage at gunpoint. He wounds Axel but luckily their Sgt - Bogomil turns up and empties his gun guns into Maitland, killing him.

 

 

SUMMARY

STRENGTHS :	A clever villain who has a good head for business, and who is certainly not afraid of the cops.
WEAKNESSES :	A bad shot, poor fighter and a has a lousy choice when it comes to "right hand men".
