Captain Sir Hugh

The City Under the Sea AKA
War Gods of the Deep
film (1965)

Set on the Cornish coast in 1903, the Captain is the leader of an underwater society of smugglers who never age living in a lost underwater city along with their gill-man slaves. They have lived there for more than a century after being in hiding from the law, and the peculiar mix of gases has allowed them to extend their lifespan. A nearby volcano is threatening their existence but at the same time is helping to bring them oxygen via their machinary.

The Gill men (who steal from the mansion situated above the city on the cliffs) bring the Captain a painting which looks remarkably like his wife (who is now long dead), and so he orders her kidnapped which she is. Two friends are caught up in the adventure to find her, and, they track her down to the city through a secret tunnel.

The Captain captures these two two men and decides to keep them as he is made to believe they can help him control the volcano - but naturally they escape.

After a several small adventures the three captives make a getaway, but not before the Captain see's his loss and commits suicide, and heads for the open air above, which undoes the affects of the eternal life - and he ages to that of a skeleton within seconds.
