The Red Queen is a state of the art super computer, whose holographic avatar was modeled after Angela Ashford, daughter of Dr. Charles Ashford, the head programmer. She was designed to monitor the Hive's activities, employees, experiments, and the T-virus. Her system also controls the Spencer Mansion situated above the Hive.

The White Queen is later version of the Red Queen that provides a similar job for the Umbrella facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. Unlike The Red Queen, The White Queen has further advanced holographic technology and has a more convincing appearance of a child in comparison to the semi-translucent Red Queen hologram.

In Resident Evil, the Red Queen activated her primary and secondary defenses when she detected a sudden leak of a certain extreme biohazard (revealed later in the movie to be the T-Virus). She responds to this leak by sealing the Hive's (an underground research facility) entrances and locking in all of the Umbrella researchers. Once the lab is sealed, she then proceeds to mercilessly eradicate all of the employees inside.

When a commando team arrives at the Hive to investigate, the Red Queen detects their approach. Once they approach the hallway leading to her central chamber, Red Queen's defense systems go online again, locking most of the team members inside and subsequently killing them. She can be disabled via her main circuit breakers in order to prevent her from rebooting.

SUMMARY

ARCH RIVAL :	Alice.
STRENGTHS :	The Red Queen is able to detect any leaks in the facility, and is able to close access in and out of the Hive. She can also open and close pens of dangerous beasts and operate the lifts, to trap people.
WEAKNESSES :	She is trapped within the Hive and can be destroyed like any normal computer system.
WEAPONS :	One of her defense mechanisms shown in Resident Evil, is a corridor in which lasers travel along its length which burn through anything in their path.
